'I.O.U.S.A.' Doc Feature UK Distribution Announced

September 16, 2008

MercuryMedia announces today that it will be handling UK distribution of the critically acclaimed film 'IOUSA' following its theatrical release last month in the United States.

The Sundance-selected 85' feature, from Patrick Creadon ('WordPlay'), will have its European Premiere at Sheffield Doc/Fest, the week of November 5th. It will then screen theatrically across the UK starting 15th November in Picturehouse Cinemas as part of the joiningthedots season of documentaries supported by The Independent Newspaper and Sheffield International Documentary Festival.

'I.O.U.S.A.' boldly examines America’s rapidly growing national debt and its consequences for the nation and its citizens. Weaving together a nonpartisan tapestry of archival footage, compelling graphics, and candid interviews with average tax-payers and prominent leaders in American finance, Creadon follows former US Comptroller General David Walker as he criss-crosses the country explaining its unsustainable fiscal policies.

Tim Sparke MD of MercuryMedia commented: 'This timely film, whilst focusing on the US national debt, has a message that will resonate with both British citizens struggling to cope in these challenging times, and our leaders and opinion-formers who have the responsibility for solving the global financial problems we face. Mercury is very proud to be offering this film and is confident that I.O.U.S.A. will strike a chord with all who choose to see it.’

"Many countries share a number of the deficit challenges addressed in the film," said Walker, who is now president of the Peter G. Peterson Foundation, which owns 'I.O.U.S.A.' 'British citizens will be particularly interested in the portion of the film that covers how the US used the threat of financial warfare against Britain in connection with the 1956 Suez crisis.'
